Keystone Civic Association
Keystone Civic Association History
The Keystone Civic Association, originally named the Odessa Lake Region Civic Association, was formed in the 1930’s for civic improvement and promotion of the interests, welfare, and ideals of Northwest Hillsborough County. It was disbanded during World War II but was reactivated in 1948 when it was reorganized as the Keystone Park Civic Association. The articles of incorporation were filed in 1989 with its current name. Meetings were originally held in the Lake Fern School building that was located at the junction of Lutz Lake Fern Road and Gunn Highway and then moved to Keystone Park and Civic Center.
Early in 1958, Keystone Civic Association partnered with the County Parks Department for construction of a building on property that had been purchased for this purpose earlier in the decade. It was agreed that the county would pour the foundation, furnish roofing and landscaping if the civic association would supply the concrete blocks, windows, and association labor. Within 30 days, over $3,000 was collected in support of the home for the civic association.
In 2022, Hillsborough County spent $2.6 million to renovate and upgrade the entire Keystone Park and Recreation Center. The enlarged facility is 7,494 sq ft. and the 26 acre park boasts a new playground, refurbished Cours, and a lighted walking trail. The park is pictured at right prior to the renovation.
