Background to understand what is happening:

Local municipalities throughout the State of Florida have their own land use codes, environmental, wetland and wildlife protections, existing regulations and understanding of their local areas. Our comprehensive and community plans give our communities continuity and stability across administrations and agencies for addressing land use issues, preventing short-term changes and successive upheaval.

These bills would gut local authority to protect agricultural land from urban sprawl and eliminate local control on growth decisions. The bills propose no restrictions on minimum lot size and assume maximum densities regardless of any current land development code.

These bills would exacerbate urban flooding by permitting development of small conservation

areas.

This bill is not about helping the people in the state of Florida but a land grab for builders. There are NO studies or analysis backing up these bills. People moving to Florida is not a new or unique phenomenon. The protections currently in place that SB1118 and HB 1209 would eliminate have helped address smart growth in Florida for decades.

Our infrastructure is already decades behind and this would further cripple the existing system. These bills would add additional strain on roads, water systems, wastewater facilities and school capacity. These bills would require a supermajority vote to adopt land use changes and some projects would receive administrative approval taking away our communities right to speak.

This is big government overreach. The current taxpayers and residents of Florida should not be subject to arbitrary or excessive power from their government.
