KCA Adopt-A-Road ~ April 17, 2010
The Keystone Civic Association Adopt-A-Road crew hit the street again Saturday morning, April 17, to do our part for the Great American Clean-up, Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful, and to celebrate Earth Day. Volunteers scoured KCA’s adopted section of Gunn Highway – Van Dyke Road to Tarpon Springs Road, along with Gunn Highway south to Miles Road, Tarpon Springs Road from Gunn Highway to Blake Road, and a half mile of Wayne Road west from Gunn Highway – a total of 3 miles.
In all, an estimated 600 pounds of trash was collected, including scrap lumber, PVC pipe, snipe signs, and an abandoned Bob’s Barricade. The “treasures” of the day included a baseball cap, golf balls, car parts, and hardware. The winning treasure was the combined find of a petrified snake, unopened beer, unread newspaper from December 2008, tennis ball, flashlight battery, road reflector and padlock.
Complementary T-Shirts were provided to the participants by Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful, and who, by the way, also provided pizza to all clean-up volunteers at Sunday’s Earth Day festivities at the Lowry Park bandshell.
Thanks to all the volunteers and keep an eye out for notice of the next clean-up scheduled for September to coincide with the International Coastal Cleanup. on September 19, 2009.
