Why Widening Roads in Keystone-Odessa is Not the Route to Take

Keystone Family Fun Day

The 2nd Annual Keystone Family Fun Day was held on Saturday, October 18th, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Keystone Community Center.  The event included many activities for kids including a hay ride, pot decorating and plant planting, face painting, inflatable fun, snow cones and scare crow stuffing.  Classic Cars and a fire engine were on site as well as live music, hot dogs, corn on the cob and popcorn.  The Fern Garden Club had a wide variety of plants for sale and area businesses and sponsors were also on hand to round out the event.  The weather was great and a fun time was had by all!  Thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors who made this another successful Keystone event!

Trash Talkin'

International Coastal Cleanup and the KCA Adopt-A-Road, September 20, 2008

KCA hit the streets again Saturday morning, September 20, to do our part for the International Coastal Clean-up and the Gunn Highway Adopt-A-Road. A yearly high of 27 faithful volunteers braved the heat and tall grass and scoured KCA’s adopted section of Gunn Highway – Van Dyke Road to Tarpon Springs Road (1.5 miles), along with Gunn Highway south to Miles Road (1/2 mile), Van Dyke from Gunn Highway east to Brown Road (1/2 mile), Tarpon Springs Road from Gunn Highway west to Blake Road (1/2 mile), and Wayne Road from Gunn Highway west 1/2 mile – a total of 3.5 miles!

An estimated 1,400 pounds of trash was collected, along with metal and plastic pipe, wire, scrap lumber, fence posts, hub caps, snipe signs, trash can lids, and other miscellaneous items.

The “treasures“ of the day included a valid AARP card, tools, utility company supplies, baseball caps, sports balls, and a garage door opener (the winning entry in the “Treasures or Trash” contest)!  Complementary T-Shirts were provided to the participants by Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful, Inc.

Thanks to all the volunteers and keep an eye out for notice of the next clean-up, scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2009.

Foster Homes Needed

GREAT, Greyhound Rescue and Adoptions of Tampa, is in dire need of temporary homes for some wonderful dogs.  All expenses are paid by GREAT (vet, food, heart worm prevention, etc.) and these dogs don't require a lot of space and only moderate exercise.  Fostering these dogs until they are placed in a good home can be a rewarding experience.

If you or anyone you know may be interested in providing short-term or a regular foster home, please go to www.great-greyhound.org to apply.  Please understand that there is an application process to ensure homes are suitable including working schedules.  Accepted applicants will have guidelines to follow if accepted as a foster home.  Applicants who are not accepted may be able to help out tremendously in other ways.

Please go to the GREAT website or email kfairclo@tampabay.rr.com for more information.
